After many years of searching and testing we are now ready to offer Freelite™ Solar powered lights on our website.

Solar powered lighting is the safest and easiest kind of outdoor lighting to install. Each light fixture contains a scientifically designed solar collecting panel that converts sunlight into electrical energy. This energy is stored in highly efficient rechargeable batteries used to light the fixture at night. The Solar lights we offer utilize the latest LED technology and provide ample light to mark entrances, accent walkways and steps, and to indicate the location of darkened obstacles at night

However, it is important to understand the limitations of the technology so as to avoid disappointment.

Advantages:

Night-time activities are made possible due to the low cost of installation. They require no wiring, are very easy to install.  Solar lights turn on and off automatically. When it starts to get dark the specially designed circuitry turns the light on, and depending on the program selected it stays on until the battery is discharged or daylight reappears. The lights are free to operate as they are recharged by the sun. This makes them ideal for remote and rural areas.

Disadvantages:

Solar lights must have sun during the day to charge the batteries. The length of time that the light stays on at night is in direct proportion to the amount of sun exposure during the day. Very simply, the better the sun exposure during the day the longer the lights stay on at night. Therefore, the fixtures need to be positioned so that the solar panel is exposed to the sun. Overhanging trees, shrubbery, your house, and fences can cause shadows that will become a limiting factor to the optimum performance of your light.

Freelite™ Solar lights are the best, most durable, and safest battery technology available today

Freelite™ Solar lights are the best, most durable, and safest battery technology available today - Murray Lye Landscaper

Battery technology. At the core of every Freelite™ solar light is a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery. These LiFePO₄ batteries are known for their reliability, stability and over all safety and efficiency. As they are safer to produce and recycle than other Lithium-Ion batteries, they are more environmentally friendly too. LiFePO₄ technology is ideal for New Zealand’s variable climate. It performs reliably in a wide range of temperatures, designed not to overheat, and doesn’t pose the same safety risks associated with other lithium-ion battery chemistries.

Built-In Battery Management. Every Freelite™ lighting system comes equipped with an advanced Energy Management System (EMS). This smart internal controller protects the battery by regulating charging and discharging - helping to avoid overcharging, deep discharges, or unnecessary battery stress. The EMS also manages your light’s dusk-to-dawn function automatically, so your lights turn on when you need them and conserve energy when you don’t.

Reliable Lighting. One of the most common issues with solar lighting is poor winter performance. Thanks to efficient LEDs and an optimized battery capacity, Freelite™ fixtures (when well positioned) are designed to deliver two to three nights of battery life from a single day’s charge. That means even during those grey, rainy stretches of winter, your driveway, path, or garden remains well-lit and safe. On some models this can be extended by selecting sensor, dimming or shorter run time modes to further increase the longevity over cloudy days. Because the system is designed to reduce daily depth of discharge, battery life is significantly extended. That’s years of dependable use

Testing has shown the lights will handle around 2,000 charge cycles at 80% discharge - that’s roughly 5 years if the solar light is installed in an optimum location with around 5 hours of direct sunlight most days - and only discharges about 40% each day - the battery will last much longer. Keep in mind that sunlight and location do affect battery lifespan. Replacement batteries will be available to purchase from us at the time they are required.
