Example 1  -'In-line' wiring configuration

Transformer size and load
Add up the total wattage of the lamps in the circuit.
20+20+20+20 =80watts.  The transformer required is a 100w.
Cable size and length
Measure the distance of cable required to reach all the light fittings. 

36m.  Therefore the cable required is 36metres of 4mm cable.

 

Example 2  -'Tee-line' wiring configuration
 

Transformer and load

Add up the total wattage of the lamps in the circuit.
20+20+20+20 =80watts The transformer required is a 100w

 
Cable and length
Measure the distance of cable required to reach all the light fittings.
 
Left hand run:  6m plus 30m =36m
Right hand run: 6m plus 30m = 36m
 
Therefore the cable required for the left hand run is 36metres of 4mm cable and another 30m for the right hand run. total 66m of 4mm cable.
